Pokemon Go: Who Said The 90s Was Over?

Gotta catch 'em all; too bad they aren't all located in Western Pennsylvania.

It's the year 2000. Millennials are running out and about trying to become a Pokemon master.

Children using every bit of daytime they have to catch all the Pokemon they can before being called in for the night by their parents because it's getting to dark outside and their dinner is getting cold.

Oh, wait. It's 2016. We're 20 years old. There's no curfew?! Let's do this.

Oh, Pokemon. One of the few things that my brother and I bonded over as children (and being six years apart, that's not always an easy feat). It's no secret that growing up in the generation of Millennials has its ups and downs, but I have to admit, Pokemon Go is definitely something that we wanted AND needed.

For the people who have been stuck in a Pokeball for the last two weeks, Pokemon Go is an Augmented Virtual Reality game on iOS and Android devices that allows players to go out into the real world and catch Pokemon! It all started as an April Fool's joke a few years back with Pokemon teamed up with Google Maps and placed Pokemon around the world for people to catch. Since it did so well, here is Pokemon Go some years later.

Some people are complaining that they're seeing kids everywhere all over the place. But weren't these same individuals just complaining about how children never leave the house anymore? Now here they are going outside, walking miles (and I mean miles, It takes 3 miles to hatch a 5.0km egg collected at PokeStops). Also, my parents have gotten in on the action as well. Let's just say that I've gone on multiple excursions with my mother and brother. My dad has the app but he will be suckered in on our adventurers soon enough!

While the game itself does say to watch surroundings and be safe, that's not always the case. For example, I found myself tripping over a part of the sidewalk that was not exactly even with the rest of its friends. Here's the literal replay:

All kidding aside, PLEASE be careful when playing this game! Do NOT Pokemon Go and drive; if you have someone with you, give them your phone! Chances are very little will be accomplished anyway. You have to be going slower than 20mph for the game to count you as walking to hatch eggs, Pokestops won't load, and Pokemon won't spawn if you're going too fast anyways. Also, be aware of other people when walking as well! My parents bike ride in Pittsburgh and had multiple individuals almost be run over by them because they weren't paying attention.

Be careful, have fun, and good luck catching them all!

P.S. TEAM MYSTIC!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
