Pokémon Go Etiquette

Don't Pokemon and Drive.

Pokémon Go Etiquette

Pokemon Go has been attracting attention worldwide, for both good reasons and bad. The game is revolutionary and has made many of our childhood dreams come to life, but it has earned a few people a Darwin Award.

1. Don't Play and Drive.

Does this really need to be said? Distracted driving is becoming an increasing problem, and there have already been a few incidents involving drivers playing the game. The Snorlax can wait. Your life and the lives of those around you are more important, and it’s difficult to play Pokemon Go when you’re in a coma. A recent update on the game informs you when you’re going too fast while playing, just to remind you that as amazing as the game is, it’s not so amazing that you need to risk your life for a few extra minutes of play.

2. Be Mindful of Those around you.

Though it seems like everyone in the world is playing, there still are some people who don’t want anything to do with the game. When you’re out and about collecting items from Pokestops and getting kilometres on your eggs, be mindful of those around you who aren’t immersed in the game. Don’t stop in the middle of the sidewalk, or if you need to stop, move to the side. Pay attention when walking, and don’t bump into people.

3. Don't Trespass, or Play in Disrespectful places.

There are some Pokestops in questionable places. Niantic has been working to remove some of them that are in disrespectful locations to be playing, such as Ground Zero and the Holocaust Memorial Museum. There is a cemetery in the city I live in that has several Pokestops, and I’ve heard that people have been walking over grave sites. I personally think that Pokestops at cemeteries should be removed altogether, but that’s not the case, so we should all just be respectful of where we play.

4.Clean up After Yourself and Respect Bylaws.

In Ottawa where I live, there are outdoor lure parties, where people bring lawn chairs and blankets, coolers with a day’s worth of food, and multiple portable batteries, and spend the day dropping lures and catching Pokemon. Usually there’s a crowd of people at the same place every day, and though the community is wonderful, sometimes what is left behind isn’t so wonderful. People often leave trash behind when they wrap up for the day, or they will throw their cigarette butts on the ground, even though smoking isn’t permitted at this specific park. When the game was first released, there were people at this certain park all hours of the day, even though it was technically closed at 11pm. People in the area began to complain, and now Bylaw frequents the area every night.

5. Don't yell out "Dragonite!" if There Isn't one.

This has been a pretty common prank around the Pokemon Go Community. Don’t be that guy.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.
