So I'm going to take a break this week from all of the serious articles I could be writing. This week there have been several shootings and protests involving Black Lives Matter and I could rant for hours about why humanity should stop being hateful toward each other because of skin tone, but I feel like that sentiment is being expressed so well by so many other people. I don't want to undermine the importance of these issues, but this week I would just like to focus on a more lighthearted issue that we can all enjoy and relate to no matter who we descended from or what we look like.
That issue is "Pokemon Go."
I'm not going to lie, I have never been much of a gamer; I download game apps on my phone and delete them after a week or two because I get bored with them too easily. They seem to have no purpose and they just waste time. But, this is not necessarily true of the aforementioned app!
Who can honestly raise their hand and say that they have never before been so caught up in a show and the characters that they didn't wish that they were a part of it themselves? This is one of the things I love about entertainment. I personally have a huge passion for the entertainment industry because of the huge impact it has on society and humanity in general. It definitely impacted me.
I grew up an only child and entertainment was my escape; it was my own little fantasy land. Whenever I wasn't watching or reading some mind-capturing fantasy, I was building on what I had read or seen or coming up with my own fantasy in my imagination when I played outside either by myself or with friends. While we traversed the neighborhood, we became the characters from our shows. We had a blast running around the neighborhood thinking we could be whatever we wanted to be.
Now, all of us adults who are still kids at heart get to go out and live our childhood all over again and not just via digital interface.
We get to be Pokemon trainers, guys! And it's not just from your living room or phone that you get to catch and train Pokemon, but you actually have to get up off your posterior end and go find the Pokemon like you're on an actual adventure with Ash and his friends! How cool is that?!? This app is so worthwhile! Not only does it let you live out your fantasy of being able to be a Pokemon trainer, but it encourages you to get up and get out as well. This is one of the best interactive apps I have seen in a while. I really hope that this will continue to do well (with already over 1 million downloads) and that kids from the younger generations will take a page from the book of us "old-timers" and get out and explore like we used to in "the good old days." It's a great way to get up and go while you game, because at this point we've all learned how to Wii from our couches.
Now, I only just downloaded the app today, and I don't understand how everything works just yet, but I am stoked about getting to use this app for a lot longer than a couple of weeks. So as a non-gamer, I encourage you to download the app and get out there and "catch 'em all!"
