There has been a lot of talk and news about a new game that just came out: Pokémon Go. For those of you who have no idea what this game is all about, it’s basically a virtual game that uses your location while you go out and catch monsters called “Pokémon”. When you catch Pokémon, you can use Stardust and Candy to power up or evolve the Pokémon. There are various kinds of Pokémon that you can catch, and people are usually addicted to the game due to their dream to meet a common goal – to “catch ‘em all”. In other words, their dream is to catch all the Pokémon that exist and become a Pokémon Master.
Pokémon may be fun for many of us. While you’re driving, you might want to stop by at a Pokéstop to stock up on some pokéballs or other supplies. You see that you’re near a rare Pokémon and you want to catch it. Our eyes are glued to our phones and it is difficult for many of us to stop. Being addicted to a game is normal. In any point of our life, we get addicted to things – games, food, or love. Even though it’s okay to be addicted, there are certain extents that we should be aware of.
It disappoints me to read news about Pokémon Go when it’s about people Pokémon “Going and Driving”, which results in an accident, or people calling 911 to seek access into police or fire stations. I hate to admit, but Pokémon Go is evidently causing an increase in accidents and is affecting the police’s ability to be efficient. A police officer dispatched to a car accident caused by a Pokémon “Goer and Driver” could have saved someone from becoming a victim of robbery while driving around the community. A police dispatcher may have become furious after receiving a call from a Pokémon Go gamer who asked for permission to go into a police station to catch Pokémon. So let’s try to prevent our accidents by being aware of our surroundings, which is a warning displayed to everyone who plays Pokémon Go.
If we continue to have these accidents with Pokémon Go, who knows what might happen? There were many times in history in which people “ruined it” for everybody. In other words, one incident took away privileges of many people. Let’s hope that nobody ruins our privilege of playing Pokémon Go by choosing to do something unlawful or dangerous. We wouldn’t want such an addicting game to disappear because of someone else. Recovering through this loss would take quite a while.
Trust me. There are far more important things that happen in a police station rather than stocking up some pokéballs and potions. Let’s not fall into a hole while our eyes are glued to our phone. Be cautious while you’re out looking for Pokémon – your life is much more valuable! If you are responsible for your own safety, you may one day live to become a Pokémon master.
