As kids, we had a deck box for our Pokémon cards and owned all the Pokémon games on any system you could imagine. We saw the movies in theaters and there were even Pokémon board games on the market. As a millennial that lived through all that and owned all those things as a child, this new app brings out the inner child in me. I always (like many others) dreamed of being able to catch Pokémon and be one of the best trainers. Of course as I got older and came to the realization that they weren't real and never would be, the only choice is to live in the past. However, Pokémon Go has all of us running around neighborhoods and looking like crazy people trying to "catch them all".
This app even takes it a step farther. Actually being able to see the Pokémon appear through your camera in your neighborhood and all around you is something millennials have dreamed of since we were about five. We can take pictures of our beloved Pokémon as we train and evolve them to be the strongest and the best. The app also chose to stick to the original Pokémon, which is another plus for 90's kids who grew out of the fad once they started creating more than 151. Not only is this ten times better than laying a card down and in visioning the attack, it's got us all acting like we're five years old again.
As far as the security issues go that the older generation keeps telling us about, who are we to be concerned? We all have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media that allows people to hack our phones. Why not have some fun with Pokémon if someone is really going to hack my information.
On top of that, those who are complaining about how "dumb" this new app is, have others their age playing it with us! Parents, and grandparents even, with smart phones are downloading this to "see what the fuss is about", and let's be honest they love it to. They'll just never admit it.
I know what you're thinking. It's just an app and the craze will fade over time. Although this may be true, I am one of many of a generation who is stuck in this craze. We don't expect everyone to understand why this is the coolest thing that has ever happened to us, but we do need you to respect our craziness. Think of something from your childhood that you loved so much and had to have so bad, now imagine it making a comeback ten years later and on top of that becoming just a bit more real. It's amazing. Every 90's kid rejoiced at the creation of Pokémon Go. Welcome to your childhood 90's kids, it's good to be back.
