See that pidgey in the tree? Or that lapras in the lake? Yes it is finally here. The long awaited Pokemon GO is available. iOS and Android users alike can now go out and find their favorite pokemon in the wild. My friends and I, like many other trainers out there, were too excited for our own good from the moment we heard about the game to the instant it was available. See for yourself:
The game is built around going to different places to pick up various items, catch different pokemon, and challenge gyms. The game starts out by introducing the new professor, Willow, they decided to stick with the tradition of naming professors after types of trees.
Soon after creating your trainer, Professor Willow alerts you that there are pokemon nearby. charmander, bulbasaur, and squirtle pop up. Although all three of them are good choices, and you can't go wrong with any of them, I chose squirtle because he's my favorite. But there was just one problem....
You cannot imagine the heartache I experienced. After waiting so long for this, my patience was rewarded with this. So I sat and waited while my brothers were living their dreams, one caught an eevee and the other caught a tauros. I congratulated my friends from college and highschool whose neighborhoods were swarming with pokemon. Later on I was able to stay on the server long enough to find some pokemon just around the corner from my house. I hopped on my bike and sped around the corner. IT WAS A BULBASAUR!! I was so pumped. Then the server crashed. I pedaled my way home.
Word around town is that it's a common problem. The game might be slow and annoying at times. It is a great change of pace from the classic handhelds with a fascinating new mechanic that people enjoy. While I enjoy my emulators and classic catridge games, I can't wait till I can actually stick on the server long enough to get my trainer to level 5 and challenge a gym. So I leave you, dear reader, with this,
To catch them is my real test,
To train them is my cause.
I will travel across the land,
Searching far and wide.
Each Pokemon to understand
The power that's inside
