What She Gave Me

A heart and a hand

An audience for my band

These are the things She Gave

Me

A light for the road

and a friend on the way

To journey through life

together

An ear that listened

when I needed it most

and a hug when I wanted

somebody close

A love that understands,

a surprising joy that expands

These are the things She Gave

Me

This poem is a small thank you to all of the women in my life who have been there for me and have supported me, and given me gifts that at the time may have been small, but have added up to a lot. In this season of Epiphany, take the time to thank those who have given you the gifts that they had, the individuals who like the magi of the Baby Jesus took time that was precious to them and shared themselves with you. Make an effort to be that light of support, that unexpected gift of joy in someone else's life.

I thought senioritis in high school was rough until I became a college senior about to go into the real world. I'm supposed to have everything figured out, right? I mean I went through four years of tough classes and serious self-searching (and crying). What I found overall was Senioritis sneaking up on me.

It takes a little while to get used to not seeing your high school best friends every day. Going away to college causes a lot of changes, but one thing that will never change is my love for my high school BFFs, and the texts that I get from them. College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
