You did more than fill my lungs
With spicy-sweet aromas, far.
You also blew in acrid smoke
And broken mirror shards.
The jagged edges stole my breathe,
Made me question who we are.
You didn't simply thicken my blood
With rich treats and golden drafts.
You took me to the furthest depths,
We delved into our forgotten pasts.
The dimmed-out lights, the faceless crew,
And never-ending members of the cast.
It's not just that you blew my mind
With every story that you told.
You never showed me who you are,
Never let your spirit emerge, unfold.
Just the same, scared boy like me,
Hiding behind a screen, yet oh so bold.
You did more than pinch a nerve or two
With every convoluted scheme.
You twisted them raw and tender, dear.
I finally recognize a theme.
Your restless feet, your present air,
Your sincere gaze. What does it mean?
You didn't simply break my heart
With words I never asked to hear.
You erased it with a smile, a hug,
Or so I thought, but its still here.
I drew it back up and hit restart,
Here we begin again, my dear.
