The Meaning of Life
Chickens
have a short term memory of
three minutes.
Three minutes of eating,
and drinking,
and scratching.
Moving the yellow sawdust
to the left,
to the right.
There’s no ground here. Just dirt.
Pecking the red feeder
ramming face to the ground
to scoop up the dust of corn.
Walking to the fence
three feet away.
Walk to the other side.
Peck the ground again. Still dirt.
