Here we are again
Lounging beside one another on your sofa.
I, with that familiar, mixed-up happy feeling
I get when I'm around you
A feeling, like a whisper coming from the furthest recesses
Of my mind, asking, "now what?"
In a million different iterations.
You, a mystery given human form
Sit silent next to me
And melancholy creeps its frostbitten fingers toward my heart valves,
Threatening to chill me bone-deep.
Until I feel your touch
And the frost recedes.
I don't know what this means,
Your fingers tracing mine.
I don't know what to make of our
Minds and curious hearts entwined.
Beneath a black summer night sky without stars
We collapse into one another,
And in my head we resist time, moment by moment,
Extending infinitely, if we want it to.
