Happily Ever After

I’ve always dreamed of a happily ever after.
A shining figure standing in front of the rising sun,
basking in the light before rescuing the maiden.
But then, the curtain closes, the spotlight dims,
and the figure vanishes without a trace.
I am left alone in a tower of desolation,
as the years bleed through the cracks.
No one needs to save me.
I need not a prince no longer.
With the armor of fallen knights,
piece by piece, I cover my body in steel.
Steel from the ones who ran,
who failed to conquer the dragon.
I prepare myself to break through these walls,
ready for the demons behind that door.

I need not your shield.

I need not your protection.

I am to be my own savior.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone
Youtube

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
