Spring break is here and my family came up from Florida to visit me. It's been a long week with my mom, two brothers, my sister and I all crowded into a one bedroom apartment! But with a visit comes family meals, their rascally cat, cards, and board games galore. Here are a few haikus to celebrate my spring vacation.


Stretching and sunlight

Floating off away somewhere

The days I call home



My mom hides her youth

Secretly under blue cards

During hand and foot



Claw marks with raised skin

Gnashing teeth and fetching toys

Black fur in my mouth

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here.
