Poetry of the Heart

I wrote about feeling isolated and alone at times in my last two articles. Often an easy way for me to be able to commune with God and vent has either been through poetry or writing. It has been a while since I have been able to sit down and write a story. But poetry has been a blessing. It is an easy way to empart feeling and emotion in just a few lines. So here are a few poems I recently wrote.

Home

What is a home?

A building?

A group of people?

What is it?

I think it is different for every person

Some find it in a building

Some while traveling

Some with people

It is a never-ending question that not one person can specifically answer

Society may try to but it is impossible,

I for example will never call any building home

For me it is more the people,

But then again it is not,

I find my confidence in God and him alone,

He is my home

He is my strength,

It is only in him that I can really stand

The Smaller Path

We are weak and weary

We want to take the smooth path

That which is straight and unbending,

Yet you call us to a life of devotion,

A life humbled and surrendered to you,

It may be winding path,

That seems as if,

It will never end,

But in all we must remain faithful,

We may be angry at you,

Feel alone,

But you are forever at our side

Forever guiding us through life,

We need not fear anything,

For you are here with us, by our side

It is you we find our strength in.

My Lord

None is greater than he,

I bow before him,

I may stow bitterness,

But I truly understand that,

He is there for me,

The day he will return,

Is not when every nation,

But every tongue,

And not even so,

he will come when every man,

Has heard his name.

A Boy

Once there was a boy,

He wondered

Yearned for companionship,

It took him,

Years to notice,

That for him,

Through thick and thin,

One had been by his side,

It was not a friend,

Or man,

But it was the lord,

Even once he did know this

He always needed constant reminder,

God had always been by his side,

God had always been by his side,

Every time he faltered,

He would have to be reminded,

In his darkest,

In his most Joyous,

In his loneliest,

In his most social times,

God was their though it all,

He needed to always humble himself before God,

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
