Poetry On Odyssey: Love Language

There are words in different cultures that are so beautiful that even the English language is speechless.

Poetry On Odyssey: Love Language
Pablo Heimplatz

I always thought it was interesting how there are some words from other countries that cannot be directly translated into English words. A lot of these words range from different actions, fruits, or even feelings a person can feel. After looking into different words and how there is beautiful vocabulary in the world, I realized how lucky other countries were for being able to express something that we could not.

There are words in other cultures

That can't be translated directly into the English language.

"Cafuné," Brazilian Portuguese

Meaning "the act of tenderly running one's fingers through someone else's hair"

"Ya'aburnee," Arabic

"The declaration of one's hope that they'll die before the other person because living in a world without them would be too difficult."

"Saudade," Portuguese

"The longing of something or someone that you loved but is now lost."

How is it

That there are all of these feelings

That we can't even put our own words to

There are words in my brain

That can't be explained directly with my lips.

I would show them to you,

If only I knew how.

You see,

You can't describe the touch someone has against your skin,

The electricity that runs through your veins.

You can't try to translate the meaning of someone in your life,

Because they'll never be able to comprehend the words

Spilling from your mouth

I can tell you about the chills that slide down my back as your fingers run course through my hair

I can tell you how much darker the world would look if you were to disappear at this second

And I can tell you just how much I still long for you far after you're gone

But you would never truly understand the words flowing off of my tongue

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

mu bucket list

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
