When she opened her eyes,
everything was quiet.
Except the screaming.
She jumped and looked around,
but everything was still.
Her heart never stopped beating
even as she tried to go back to sleep.
The sun kept its watchful eye on her
as she opened her eyes again.
The screaming never stopped.
I rushed to her bed and held her tight,
and I think that's when she realized
the screaming was her own.
I looked at her and smiled.
I promise I'll still love her when she wakes up again.
