This poem was written for my Intro to Creative Writing class. We got an assignment where we had to redeem a cliche. At first, I had no idea what to do, but then, I came up with a funny way to use the cliche 'waking up on the wrong side of the bed'. An easy way to use a cliche in an original way could be to just take it literally instead of using it in a figurative sense.
A Bad Day
He had been in a terrible mood since he woke.
He yelled at his wife.
He yelled at his kids.
His boss,
And his friends
His day was going so wrong,
and he couldn't understand why.
He had done everything the same as always.
He ate using his right hand.
He drank with his right hand.
He wrote with his right hand.
Everything was right,
So why was he so angry?
He got home and gave half-hearted greetings to his family,
And went straight to bed.
That was when he realized….
He woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
