Poetry Night At The Coffee House

Yes, I really just wrote a whole ode to coffee and it's pretty good.

Your dank aroma fills my nostrils and creates a blanket of smell throughout my home. With each drip of your sweet nectar, my heart rate steadily increases. What an incredible thing that nature has provided for us; starting from a bean and transforming into a liquid. Your dark qualities intermingle perfectly with the light cream that creates a flavor that is perfectly balanced. Hot or cold, you are addictive either way. Each cup brings back the want for just a splash more. If I can't have you, the feeling of separation is almost unbearable. The start to my day is no start at all if you are not there.

[Quick snap intermission.]

Let's continue this journey, shall we?

You're the reason I wake up in the morning and can take on whatever life throws at me. You keep my sanity intact when nothing else can. There is something magical about your dark brown demeanor that no other beverage can compare to. People have dates over you, there is an ice cream made out of your perfect flavor, and there are many stores dedicated to solely delivering customers a bag full of your magic bean. Like Jack up the beanstalk, you take me higher and lift me up, but when it is time to come down there is nothing I hate more.

The shaking. The jitters. The droop in my eyelids begins to set in because you began to set out for a break. You tease me and taunt me knowing that I will be wanting more. You wave goodbye only to say hello again in a couple of hours because I just can't resist. You're no good for me, but after all, a girl loves an incorrigible bad boy. Yes, coffee, you are my muse, my guilty pleasure, my morning elixir. There are days I wish I had never been introduced to you at all, but then I would have never learned about the boost you could provide me in my time of need. You put a little more pep in my step, a little more zing in my life, and I just can't get enough.

If you haven't been reading this entire ode to coffee in a smooth jazz voice then I highly suggest starting from the top and do this piece some justice. Any or all lines that you agree with feel free to snap along in agreement. Coffee is the bane of our existence and yet we still choose to indulge in its sinister presence. Amen and God bless.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
