Most people by now have heard the absolute bop that is "Most Girls" where it encourages women to stand up for each other because they're all amazing and unique. However, in the video it was from the perspective of a guy she was dating saying she wasn't like most girls. I found it unique because most today try so hard to distance themselves from others of their gender out of fear of stereotyping when just like in her song we are all awesome and talented. This is a poem I wrote on that.
"I'm not like most girls"
"Well maybe you shouldn't assume me to be other guys"
When did we get to the point that being like others was so wrong?
We try so hard to say how we stand out
Not realizing that there are countless others who say the same for so long
What exactly are we trying to get away from?
What do we feel the urge to be better than?
When together we say we need to join forces
But when away, we say we are "better than"
There are guys out there with talent
Talent I wish to learn
I know guys out there with a better figure
A figure I hope to earn
There are girls that see each other
And say
"I wish I could be like her"
Or they get jealous and hide it because well
"I don't want to be ranked under"
We all have our own quirks
Our own strengths
Our own abilities
And we also might do things
That may not be correct to you
They may not be correct to be
I just know I'm trying to be the best that I can be
And if most guys can say that's what they want
I aspire to be like them
Because some might see what I can do
And wish that they were like me
I may not have the exact same goals as most guys around
Girls may not have the same wishes as others may have found
But most of us have something or someone that we want
Cause we're all just lost souls acting like we have something to flaunt
I don't mind being the majority when the majority feel like a minority
We all want to be happy even if it's not the same way
