I once was under water
I felt the liquid around me seeping into my pores
Then back out again
Pulling at my hair, my skin, my heart
It was dark
There was poetry in the bubbles but fire in the foam
And the minnows passing by were bones
They had seaweed for teeth and they wept as they swam
Is this who I am?
I thought I remembered once
But once I was under water
And twice I had thought of drowning
My heart's pounding
Like the drum of the waves hitting shore
I felt the liquid around me seeping into my pores
I once was under water
Until I came up for air
