A Letter to the Good People
You wake up today,
wondering how your day will end up.
you ask yourself, what can I do
to make “their” day better?
You go out to start your day.
It’s midday,
you’re the reason for a couple of smiles,
you’ve created laughter for a few,
and you’ve opened some minds.
But, you still feel empty.
It is now the evening.
You’re exhausted.
Not because of school work or running errands,
but because of being there for so many people
to none reciprocating it back to you.
Remember that sometimes
being selfish is okay.
Sometimes you must care about yourself
before others, you are important.
Don’t sell yourself short.
Loner
As I was walking down a lonely path,
I heard a voice that told me to come back.
It had new excitements, wonder, and galore;
It had new adventures to keep me from being bored.
I saw visions of family and friends,
enjoying themselves like there would be no end.
I saw the love of my life reaching out to me,
telling me to join them; to “come see.”
Rather than turning back and letting myself go,
a voice in my head decided to let me know,
“These lusts aren’t going to give you what you need.
They’re just traps to stop you from what you want to succeed.”
I stopped looking behind and began to walk again,
because I realized that where I want to go is somewhere foreign.
Foreign enough where I truly am my own owner.
Letting myself enjoy and be what people call a “loner.”
