An argument arose,
poisonous words pierced my ears.
Suddenly,
the flipped table catapulted dinner.
Startled and afraid I asked,
why my dad was a monster?
Promised a day at the zoo
Faithful in my “dad”,
I waited on the steps.
Hours passed.
I lost hope.
Looking back now,
It was a disguise.
Growing up with emails between us;
“How’s school?”
“How much money?”
We were business partners.
A coward, not a dad,
The donor who helped make me.
You’ve been uninvolved,
uninterested,
and nonexistent
for 15 years.
I can live the rest just fine.
