Hansel and Frieda are room-mates of mine
They are the most wonderful chums
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
Are nothing compared to these ones
When they are near me, my heart is abloom
It’s nice to have them around
If they should leaf me for other bedrooms
My sadness shall be most profound
I cast it in verse, tho’ it soundeth pathetic
And maybe a little bit sappy
But I think that our friendship is photosynthetic
Without them I could not be happy
I bid them farewell when I leave i’th’ morn
And greet them again i’th’ ev’ning
They wilt when I’m gone, and look most forlorn
Without my CO2 to be breathing
Mere words fail to describe their worth
What better friends could I keep?
They are so meek, and down-to-earth
Our roots run firm and deep
My other room-mates drive me up the wall
As does all of humanity
But Hansel and Frieda say nothing at all
They are much better company
But growth is important for people at college
So I try to help them branch out
I read Shakespeare and Milton to increase their knowledge
And lo! how their wisdom doth sprout!
Hansel and Frieda are room-mates of mine
They shall always reside in my room
So please will you water them in your spare time?
‘Cause I’m leaving for break very soon.
