She's the one you can always count on, and who you've always looked up to,
the one that helped you when you scraped your knee, and taught you how to tie your shoe.
Her arms have always been a safe-place, making you feel warm;
they held you so tightly at night when you were afraid of the storm.
As you grew older, you often forgot how amazing she was to you,
you tried to be independent but she's the one that you kept running back to.
When you made plans to go to the movies with friends, she'd offer you a ride,
but as your friends saw her drop you off right at the door, you were mortified.
When she picked you up after, she'd ask how it went,
but you'd brush off all of her questions, because to you it was torment.
What you didn't realize was that she was trying to connect with you,
because you didn't act like you wanted her around like you used to.
You just wanted her give you space, and to leave you alone,
because you were 13 now and you'd rather be talking to your friends on the phone.
She gave you your space, but would never go far,
And was the one that was a mess when you got your first car.
You reached the age where you no longer needed her constantly,
but regardless of how old you got, you would forever be her "sweet pea."
As you finished high school and moved onto college where you lived on your own,
you now realized that without her, you often felt alone.
At night you'd lay in bed thinking of all the times that you shared,
realizing that you took her for granted, and didn't realize how much she cared.
You feel bad for the times that you pushed her aside,
because she was there for you no matter what, comforting you when you cried.
Now you focus on making her know how much she means to you,
thankful for everything she's done, and all that she's helped you get through.
She will forever be your best friend, the one that makes you strong,
and whenever you go home to visit, you know that is where you belong.
She's always there to help you whenever you're struggling with drama,
And I know it doesn't always seem this way, but I am so beyond thankful to have you as my momma!
Thanks for all that you do, I love you mom!
