A Poem Devoted To Self Love

You are

A Poem Devoted To Self Love

This poem is to make you realize that despite all the things you may think that may be terribly wrong about you, you need to always love yourself. I am telling you that you need to remember how amazing you are. I want you to tattoo that on your brain. That you, you are enough, you are worth it, and you are beautiful in every way imaginable.

You Are

When I first learned that no one could ever love me more than me

A world of happiness previously unseen was opened up

because somewhere along the line of

aging, and scrutiny, and time

I was taught to despise myself

By a society that shuns our awful confidence

And feeds us our own flaws

And when I need to find the me that loves me

I can't find her.

Since when was loving who we truly are

made wrong by morons who don't matter?

You can't give into them

You have to always remember that you,

You are the only you that actually matters

And no I don't mean your looks

Because someday that will all go bad,

Its un-avoidable.

No matter how much you try to prevent it or conceal it.

I mean you.

I mean the real you

Whose green eyes go wild when you

speak of the things you love

Or maybe the way your laughter is so

melodic it's a song

You don't need makeup to cover up your true beauty

Or diet pills to slim your kindness down

When you start to drown in these

expectations placed on you by a corrupt society

You better examine the miracle of your existence

Because you, you are worth more than your waistline

You're worth the beautiful thoughts you think.

You're worth the daring dreams you dream.

You're worth the amazing art you create around you everyday you're here.

You're worth all the memories you share forever with the people who do matter.

But sometimes we tend to forget that

We forget who we truly are

Because we live in a world

Where we are pulled out the womb by the media

And told our first words

Skinny, Pretty, Perfect girl.

Muscular, Pretty, Perfect boy.

But I don't care whether it's your weight, your gender, or where your love lies.

None of that matters, because you are you

And no one else can tell you any other.

You're a goddamn treasure.

A blessing, and a miracle.

Whether you want to believe it or not.

You are.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
