I knew a boy who never smiled
Whose twinkling eyes began to dim.
And then in school he fell behind,
But no one ever questioned it.
Came home to mama late one day,
The smell of cheap perfume and smoke.
Boiling water on the stove,
No stock in sight, his stomach whirled.
Lie still in bed
Red blood shot eyes.
He counted sheep but soon ran out.
Dawn approaches soon that day,
The boy is sleeping sound in bed.
