Have you ever asked yourself what makes a great live performance by an artist, especially at one of the large scale music award shows? For this author, P!NK absolutely kills it as an on-stage performer and has set a standard others will only ever hope to be able to achieve. P!NK's latest performance at the Billboard Music Awards for "Just Like Fire" promoting the new Alice: Through the Looking Glass movie was absolutely phenomenal.
This is not the first, and I highly doubt the last, time P!NK has slayed a live performance. I will never forget the production at the Grammy's for "Glitter in the Air" and I recently re-shared the video to my Facebook page because it is still, after so many years, a breathtaking performance. See the beauty for yourself!
P!NK's infamous use of acrobatic moves and the fact that she can sing upside down like nobody's business are both simply mesmerizing. However, it is not just her physical skills and abilities that make her such a powerful performer. Humans are visual creatures and for P!NK to create physical movements and expressions adding to the impact of her lyrics are marks of a true artist. The best example I can think of is her performance of "Try" at the American Music Awards. The song has always meant a lot to me during a really pivotal moment of my life when ending a bad relationship. For me to see a visual performance of the lyrics which already danced in my head painted with memories of my own experiences was extremely impactful.
Something more has always made P!NK an inspiring figure to me. As a preteen and teenager who just did not fit in with the norm, one of P!NK's first hits claiming "tired of being compared to damn Britney Spears. She’s so pretty, that just ain’t me!" really struck me. Being from a small southern town and my inability to fit in created a punk idol in P!NK. Fifteen years later, she is still unstoppable and truly an inspiration, especially now being a mother myself and understanding the strength that comes from such a powerful and selfless position. I can not help but notice every time my girlfriends and I bring up a P!NK song, we immediately talk about which song has stuck with us and the responses are always different and always beautiful. Having an idol who encouraged us to embrace our differences and not hide them to fit in is so important and I do not think many of us realize it but we have so much to thank P!NK for. After all, she hasn't had a career that lasted longer than Britney's for nothing.
