So this past Saturday I learned an interesting lesson. Let me begin by saying that I fell in a sewage puddle; it was hilarious. But in the process my phone broke, and not just the screen, the LCD screen, which means my entire screen, was flickering.
I immediately felt irritated, all my photos, texts, and social media was out of my reach. I wouldn’t be able to Snapchat my friends, or scroll through Instagram. Here I was a girl surrounded by an amazing family and friends with beautiful souls and yet I was concerned about not being able to access my phone? How selfish of me!
So I resolved, even if or when I get my phone fixed, I am going on a social media fast. Not to prove myself as this amazing Christian, but to re-center my life around that what truly matters. This is not a post to make you feel bad about being on social media…it truly is a great thing! And of course the irony can be found in that I will still be posting my articles via Facebook. Everybody is called to different places at different times. Everyone is at a different point in his or her life and in his or her relationship with Christ and I find it incredibly disturbing that oftentimes we become so obsessed with measuring our progress alongside someone else. If anything we as Christians should know the danger of self-incriminating behavior. But that’s a discussion for another time and another article.
All of that said I will be posting an article once I reach the end of the fast discussing how it changed things for me (as I hope it will)! In the meantime I’m positive the Snapchat stories of my dogs and my tweets about Hamilton and the Marvel Cinematic Universe shall be missed.
