There is something really freeing about the first trip without your parents. Take a road trip. You and some friends decided to back up the mini van one of your dads lent you, and just start driving. The anticipation leading up to the day you leave is overwhelming. This trip was the sole thing motivating you through finals and those last few weeks of the semester.
Suddenly, the day has arrived. The first hour or so doesn't even feel real. It seems like it was just yesterday the group of you were sitting around the dorm, making plans. Now here you are, two and a half hours into the 15-hour journey. That's what this really is; a journey. An amazing adventure that isn't quite planned out. All there really is was a starting point, and an end destination. Places to sleep have been booked, but any further knowledge has yet to be learned. This is your vacation, and despite the thousands of questions your relatives have asked, you feel a certain thrill in the unknown.
Finally, you make it. Hours of driving, and multiple fast food meals have lead to you arriving at your destination. The next few days are all to yourselves to see the world the way you want to. To be clear, a road trip is so much more than a vacation. This is your time to be carefree and forget about the stressful school year and how when you get back, work will be calling your name. You are young and surrounded by friends who decided to go on this crazy adventure with you.
Please, I beg you, go on a road trip. Take a few days to break away from the crazy world we live in. Go camping and see the beautiful places that Earth has to offer. This is a live-in-the-moment sort of thing. You can't think, you do. Don't stress about the things going on around you for just a moment. Grab some friends and drive away into the sunset. While you are away, wake up and watch the sunrise. Take a moment to breathe in the fresh air. Laugh around the campfire and just live. I cannot stress this enough: go on a road trip. This is not like any other vacation you have ever been on. I promise you that this is an experience of a lifetime.
Let me say it one more time, go on a road trip. It is the simplest vacation you will ever take, but the most impactful. We live in such a busy world, and I wholeheartedly believe that we all need to take the time to slow down and watch everything else move. Lie out at night and look at the stars. See how big the moon really is. The world is such a beautiful place, wouldn't you hate if you ended up just looking it over?
So please, go on a road trip.
