Takin' Life One Cup at A Time

Yes Please, Coffee

For the one I consider the most brew-tiful....coffee.

Dear Coffee,

You make me so happy. I love you in the morning and in the afternoon, I love you in the evening, and of course at midnight. And at 4 o'clock, oh and 6 o'clock, also 10 A.M., and P.M..

What makes me love you latte, you may ask? Well, I can drink you black and bitter like my mood on Monday's, or sweet and creamy. I can rink you with coca or cinnamon, or I can drink you with some coconut oil for health.

So let's get down to business now. For those of you reading this, I will admit that I've had quite the writers block, and when you get writer's block, you start to think of some bizarre concepts to write about.

Like what life would be like if we had dream-recording pillows. An investigation of George Washington's wooden teeth. Why grapefruit is the best fruit in life. Etc., so I landed on talking about something I love and will always love, for it has only brought goodness, and not shortness, to my life. The one, the only: Coffee

It seems like today that a lot of people really enjoy the rich taste of coffee, and that's not a problem! Although I do think that the best kind of coffee is the coffee you drink from home, because it is yours and your creation. I do think that there are too many Dunkin's and Starbucks's and not enough locally owned coffee shops for us first hand, but that's not what I want to write about.

So let's talk more about coffee and why it is the best state of "bean."

First of All, coffee is

the puniest concept ever. So here's some lame (awesome) coffee puns.

"When you're depresso, drink some espresso!"

"I thought I was strong, but you really creamed me." -Cup of creamed coffee

"I cannot espresso how much you bean to me."

"Espresso yourself" My personal favorite

"You mocha me crazy!"

"Thanks a latte!"

"Mugs and Kisses"

And now that you've been granted such great opportunity to read those pressing puns, here's some great health facts about coffee, and why if you don't drink it, you should! (I'm on my fourth cup).

1. It doesn't stunt your growth! (Okay is that considered a real health fact...probably not...but now that that's out of the way.)

1. It's a great source of fiber. One cup has about 1.8 grams of fiber, and you should consume 20-38 grams of fiber a day. So that's ten cups?

2. It can reduce pain and soreness after a workout

3. Coffee protects your liver by lowering your liver enzyme levels

4. It can reduce depression, because who can be depressed with that much caffeine.

5. Coffee drinkers have stronger DNA from built strength in our white blood cells.

6. Black coffee prevents tooth decay and cavities.

7. Coffee can help protect several disease that deal with your heart, brain, and dental.

8. Coffee is an antioxidant.

9. Coffee can control your appetite, and black coffee can burn calories.

Even though I love coffee infinitely, too much of one thing is still a thing. So make sure you don't over do it! two to three cups a day is recommended at the most, so choose your cups wisely.

"I like big cups and I cannot lie!"

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
