Plea to Vote

The Presidential Election has been the talk of pretty much everything for quite a while. With only a few days to go until a new President is elected, it may be time to look into how historic this election may be.

Like every single presidential election, this election feels like it is the most important election of our time. That’s why it’s important for the people of America to make its voice heard and vote! If anyone doesn’t vote, then will the elected president truly be a choice that reflects the wants of our country?

Absolutely not. Unfortunately, the United States ranks at 139th out of 172 nations regarding voter participation. Clearly, this concept of voting is not very prevalent in American society. Nevertheless, if anyone still does not feel the urge to vote, there are some things to remember that may just create a sense of importance for voting.

Firstly, it is important to note the statistic that only 25% of Americans ages 18 to 25 are likely to vote. That means 75% of Americans are likely to allow this presidential election to be decided without an input whatsoever. This country builds upon the concept of progression, and without the democratic input of the youth in this country, is there truly any possibility to allow progression?

Secondly, out of an estimated 215 million Americans that are eligible to vote, only 153 million Americans are actually registered to vote. Approximately 62 million Americans are not even registered to vote! That’s nearly a quarter of the American population that is failing to perform its civic duty for this country and making important decisions for the future of this country.

Thirdly, it is important to realize that even American astronauts on the International Space Station can vote through secure e-mail. People not even on this planet are able to allow his or her input to make a difference in their own country! If it is possible for people outside planet Earth to perform the civic duty of voting, why isn’t it possible for so many people actually present on planet Earth?

Regardless of political affiliations, it is important that the opinions of every American are inputted through the means of voting. However, part of one’s civic duty of voting, as an American, is to also be educated in his or her opinion regarding candidates and issues on ballots. It is important for every American to take an educated stance on the support of candidates and amendments and anything else that may be present on a ballot.

It’s time to vote. Please do your part as an American.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
