My, oh my, what a week in baseball we've had. Had anyone read my article from roughly two weeks ago? Thus far, my predictions seem to be coming true. Let's review the world of baseball.
Cleveland Indians reach World Series for the first time since 1997
Wow, what can you say about these Indians? They've raked through the AL like it was nothing (a worry for their upcoming NL opponent, perhaps?). Cleveland has a 2016 postseason record of 7-1. ONE LOSS. Holy moly. I know I predicted them as the AL pennant victors, but in such dominant fashion? I didn't quite see that coming. Nevertheless, they will be quite the tough opponent for whoever stands against them in the fall classic.
Chicago Cubs are one win away from their first World Series since 1945
As a Cubs fan, it looked grim post NLCS Game 3. Chicago looked hapless, disinterested and just plain dead. Having surrendered a 2-1 lead in the series to Los Angeles, that 108-year doubt began to release its stink again. But just as the baseball pundits began retracting their statement of "this is the year of the Cubs", the Chicago bats woke with a vengeance. The Cubs put up a stammering 18 runs in two games combined on 26 hits. After the entire team collectively went the whole postseason (prior to games 4 and 5 of the NLCS) batting under .200, that's a monstrous rapture from the dead. Particularly, Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell have been raking through the last two games alone. The Cubs now hold a 3-2 lead in the NLCS, one win away from their first World Series berth since 1945. Who was the opponent they lost to then, you ask? The Indians, of course.
