The Playlist Of A Day In The Life Of A High Schooler, From Sunrise To Midnight

It's true! There's a song for that!

Have you ever felt like a song would be the perfect match for a situation you're in? There are millions of songs, so many that most of them are unheard of unless they reach the top charts. But songs are meant to make the listener feel something, and the ultimate goal of the songwriter-to forge a connection between them and those who listen to their songs.

I've always felt like there is a song to describe the situations and how I feel on an average day, and this is the compiled playlist of all the ones that make me say, "So true!"

1. Getting Up And Getting Dressed In The Morning

And the song is... "TiK ToK" by Ke$ha!

"Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy
Grab my glasses, I'm out the door; I'm gonna hit this city"

Yeah, you wish. Instead, the only "party" you're going to is the pep rally at school. At least it helps you get up in the morning with a little pop beat and confidence. Don't leave home without your best outfit, especially the sunglasses!

2. Walking Into Class... And The Abundant Homework

You're only one person! You can't possibly do all the lessons you told me to...and the song is "Human" by Christina Perri.

"But I’m only human
And I bleed when I fall down
I’m only human
And I crash and I break down"

This is the song to sing to all the teachers at school. The amazing workload we get every day literally makes us weightlifters by the time we graduate high school... and then some when we get to college! The workload can be very stressful, and there have been times when I just couldn't take it and felt like crashing.

3. The Huge Test You've Studied For... And Blank Out On

You walked into it confident, and a few questions in you realize that this may not be one of my best grades. It's happened to everyone before, trust me. "Don't Stop Believin" by Journeyis the one.

"Don't stop believing
Hold on to the feeling"

You have got to keep believing that somehow, you'll miraculously fare well on this test, right? Hold on to the feeling of that confidence to pull you through and stay optimistic. Just don't expect too much from the grade when you get your paper back...

4. When Your Friend Shows Off At Lunch

Well, of course. They had to wear that ridiculously expensive necklace that they got a week ago coupled with a really nice top (you wish you had one of those). To make matters worse, they start bragging about what store they got their clothes from and all of the others are ogling over the outfit. You want to be a"Rich Girl" by Gwen Stefani.

"If I was a rich girl
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
See, I'd have all the money in the world
If I was a wealthy girl...

No, Wouldn't just have one hood
A Hollywood mansion if I could
Please book me first class to my fancy house in London town"

Yes, this sounds like a fantasy that would be nice. Unfortunately, it isn't real...yet. The bell finally rings, and you run from the site as fast as possible, but the song about being rich still stuck in your head. If only.

5. The Mean And Popular Girl Decides To Come At You In Front Of Everyone

You were just minding your own business, and you accidentally spilled water all over her paper in class. It was an accident! But of course, being the person that she is, she decides to pick a fight. She's been holding a grudge since the beginning of the year anyway, and it's time she decides to let it out. All eyes are on you.

You just have one song to choose..."Titanium" by David Guetta.

"You shout it out
But I can't hear a word you say...

You shoot me down but I won't fall, I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium, I am titanium, I am titanium, I am titanium"

It suddenly comes to you. The comeback you throw at her is so bad, everyone in the class, even the teacher, claps (she's a chill teacher). You didn't fall, and none of her words affected you... because you are titanium. It'd be really nice to actually be bulletproof, though.

6. When You See Your Crush

"Come on, please look at me!" That's literally all you think when you pass by them in the halls. Sometimes they'll stare at you, sometimes they'll pass over you just like any other person would. What's happening?

Then you see them...and realize they're dating someone. The blow's so hard, you feel like crumbling and crying on the spot. But your reputation is at stake. And the song that you feel like yelling out loud so everyone can hear is "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift.

"Dreaming about the day when you wake up
And find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time

If you can see I'm the one who understands you

If you can see I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see
You belong with me
You belong with me"

Yeah, they do belong with you...if that other person didn't get in the way. Meanwhile, you're still trying to get their attention in the most subtle ways possible, like liking every single picture they post or commenting flattering things...maybe even trying to strike up a text conversation. Keep working on it!

7. Finally Getting On The Bus And Going Home

Finally! You get to escape school and leave for a glorious seven hours, save the homework, before your body finally says "OK. I'm done. Sleep." You feel proud that you've survived another day and maybe could still get some stuff done and have fun? The song here is "Glorious" by Macklemore.

"I got a new attitude and a lease on life
And some peace of mind...

I feel glorious, glorious
Got a chance to start again...

I made it through the darkest part of the night
And now I see the sunrise
Now I feel glorious, glorious
I feel glorious, glorious
"

Yes, you can finally let go of your worries...for the time being. There's never any end to that. But you made it through the worst part of the day, and now, you can relax for a little bit...if the homework load isn't too bad.

8. When Your Friend/Parents Won't Respond To Your Texts

What happened to them! It's the 21st century! If you don't respond to a text within two minutes, everyone assumes something is wrong with you or something has happened to you. Including you! You get so sad and depressed and ignored when you look at your ZERO notifications that have come so far!

The song is "Say Something" by A Great Big World

"Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'll be the one, if you want me to"

I'm giving up on you. Please say something so we don't have to unnecessarily panic. Thanks.

9. When You Turn In... And It All Starts Coming Back

Wait...did you remember to do that homework assignment? Did you check the answers to your in-class worksheet online? Did you remember to do the practice quiz?

For some reason, it all starts coming back to you once you lie in bed, because there's nothing left to do except think...and try to go to sleep. The song may not be familiar to you...but it's "I'm So Tired" by The Beatles. The title works out, too.

"You know I can't sleep, I can't stop my brain
You know it's three weeks, I'm going insane
You know I'd give you everything I've got
For a little peace of mind"

Stopping your brain from thinking and immediately sleeping is so hard that every teen has probably gone through it sometime. The most you can do is stay calm before you fall asleep and surround yourself with warm and soft colors. Oh, and don't check your phone. Actually, that might be a little impossible.

So that's the perfect playlist for the day... a song for everything you may encounter and what you feel written out clearly in the lyrics. There's a reason humans have been craving, changing and making music for millennia now.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

Christmas tree

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
