A Playlist For The Survivors Of Spring Semester

Music cures all. Okay, maybe not all, but you get the point.

For myself and a few other people I know, the beginning of roughly the fourth week was an indication of the hell that was about to break loose. Of course, I've had a number of assignments to do already, but week four was the start of my pain. Me being me, the only way to ease any stress I may have is through music. (It's basically the most reliable and consistent thing in my life). So, here are some songs to jam out to in honor of getting through the semester so far :)

1. "Survivor" by Destiny's Child.

Based on the headline alone, everyone should have expected this timeless bop to make an appearance. If nothing else pumps you up, I can only hope that "Survivor" will.

2. "Feeling Ok" by Best Coast.

Hopefully, you're feeling okay at this point of the semester.

3. "Blessed" by Daniel Caesar.

If you're familiar with Daniel Caesar, you probably know that this is a love song. I chose this song for one line in particular: "And yes I'm a mess / but I'm blessed to be stuck with you." College is obviously stressful and sometimes unbearable, but in the grand scheme of things, it is important to remember that you are here for a reason and that it is a privilege to have this opportunity.

4. "Train Wreck" by James Arthur

Okay, let's be real, the title says it all.

5. "If the Car Beside You Moves Ahead" by James Blake.

Similar to my Daniel Caesar pick, I also chose this song due to some specific lyrics: "If the car beside you moves ahead / as much as it feels as though you're dead / you're not going backwards." To me, these words speak to the pace of everyone's journey through life. Sometimes I get stuck with this feeling that I'm not doing enough (regardless of the fact that I tend to work myself to death). I'll notice a fellow journalism student working on some amazing, impactful project and think to myself wow, I am really behind. The truth is, we all move at different speeds and are presented with varying opportunities and resources. We have to remind ourselves that everyone doesn't operate college or a particular field in the exact same way.

6. "Human" by Kimbra.

You are human; don't get out of control with crazy high expectations. Whatever goals or aspirations you have, you'll achieve them. Just be patient.

7. "Let Me Down Gently" by La Roux.

While this song is more about heartbreak than it is school, I thought the title was fitting in terms of waiting for grades. If you didn't perform as well on a test that you thought you would, wouldn't you at least want the professor to let you down gently?

8. "Sky Walker" by Miguel.

On the flip side of being let down, if you did better on a test or assignment than you were expecting to this song is for you!

"I'm Luke Skywalkin' on these haters (splish) / Celebrate every day like a birthday / Good things come to those that wait up (splish)"

I think the lyrics are pretty self-explanatory.

9. "Icon" by Jaden Smith.

"What you call an icon livin'?" *points to you*

10. "Unstoppable" by Lianne La Havas.

I believe in you. <3

On the off chance that you feel like every paper you turned in or test you took was the equivalent of trash... here are a few songs to get you in the mood for the weekend.

1. "Boogie" by BROCKHAMPTON.

2. "Dance, Dance (if You Wanna!)" by Cameron Mitchell.

3. "Playing to Lose" by Lemaitre (feat. Stanaj).

4. "Awake and Pretty Much Sober" by Violents & Monica Martin.

5. "The Night Song" by Ravyn Lenae.

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?

For the average 20-something, life moves pretty fast. You’ve got classes, friends, relationships, jobs, family, and whatever else we overcommit ourselves with. I probably should have learned to say no to adding more to my schedule a long time ago, but instead here are 11 things that can be more helpful than coffee.

Blair Waldorf

Resting b***h face. Defined as a person, usually a girl, who naturally looks mean when her face is expressionless, without meaning to. Many of you suffer from this "condition." You are commonly asked what's wrong, when nothing is. What people don't know is that is just your facial expression. Here are some things they wish you knew.
