A Playlist For The Angsty Teenager In All Of Us

Anyone else go through a phase when all you talked about was wanting to move out of your house, how lame high school was, and maybe a conspiracy theory or two?

No? Just me?

If you said yes to any of the previous, I have a feeling you have listened to a few songs lame adults would have called “punk rock,” but what I like to call “angsy.”

Angsty music was awesome to let out our pubescent anger, and is still great to let out our emotions as "grown ups." Personally, I like to jam to this playlist while going for a run, but it's great for all listening purposes. Plus, some of these are also great for nostalgia purposes, taking you back to the good ol’ days of band tees and Converse, all day every day.

So here’s my best angsty music playlist for all of you punks out there.

1. “The Phoenix” – Fall Out Boy

Who doesn’t love some FOB? This song is all around amazing. (And the perfect tempo to jog.)

“We are the jack-o- lanterns in July, setting fire to the sky. Here comes this rising tide, so come on; put on your war paint.”

2. “Dead!” – My Chemical Romance

This song is so easy to dance along to and has some sweet guitar parts, but the lyrics are really angry, which means it’s PERFECT.

“If life ain’t just a joke, then why are we laughing?”

3. “Just Like You” – Falling In Reverse

Disclaimer: The lead singer of this song is a huge jerk. Unfortunately, this song is just too darn catchy to not listen to. It’s my alarm clock for early mornings, which will make perfect sense if you listen to it.

“Don’t tell me I’m not worth it, ‘cause you are far from perfect.”

4. “Prayer of the Refugee” – Rise Against

This song just screams teenage angst. Rise Against sings about some really serious stuff, and this song nails it.

“We’ve been pulling out the nails that hold up everything you’ve known.”

5. “The Resistance” – Anberlin

Anberlin is definitely an underrated band. The lead singer has such a sweet, smooth voice, but he’s backed with some wicked guitar parts. The result is perfection.

“Too late to make amends; you’ve got a riot on your hands.”

6. “Love the Way You Hate Me” – Like a Storm

This song is great for the teenager that is feeling judged by everyone in his or her life. Or for the adult who just needs a solid jam session.

“So take a shot, say what you want about me. All you are is everything that I will never be.”

7. “Playing God” – Paramore

Sometimes it feels like people are constantly shoving their beliefs down our throats; this song does an amazing job of addressing this issue.

“You don’t deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you.”

8. “Down” – Thousand Foot Krutch

This is another less-known band, and another one of my favorites. If you’re not into the meshing of genres, this song isn’t for you. If you are, then you have good taste in music.

“You wanna try to take me under? I’ll never bow ‘til I’m six feet under.”

9. “Entertainment” – Rise Against

I tried to pick only one song from this band, but I couldn’t leave this one out. It’s my go-to angsty song. This song is a masterpiece. (This whole album is fantastic, to be honest. I’d definitely recommend it.)

“All we are are pretty faces, picture-perfect bottled rage.”

10. “Nowhere Kids” – Shinedown

This one is my personal favorite. Just listen to this one. Trust me.

“Guess who’s back and mad as hell? The nowhere kids who wished you well.”

We may not be teenagers anymore, but sometimes we just need to head-bang a little.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

What is "talking?" How does one "talk?"

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
