There are many things that are a core part of American culture that we all experience. One thing many of us experience is not the same for all of us. And it can be either good or bad.
Playing sports is something that I have always done growing up. The sports I have been a part of have played a part of shaping who I am. There are many things that happened to me while I was playing sports that I am glad happened, but there are other things I wish didn't.
When I played sports, they taught me about life. I learned that life is not always fair and that is the way that it is. Once, in wrestling, we were all conditioning and one of our team mates could not cut it. Because he could not cut it our coach punished the entire team and made us start over.
They also taught me about adversity. The sports I played were rugby, football, and wrestling. They taught me mental toughness and to be able to buckle down when I need to whether it is mentally or physically. This is something I will use the rest of my life whether it is college or my future career.
There is one major thing that I think makes playing sports a difficult decision, and that is getting injured. I have had several injuries while I have played sports that I will deal with the rest of my life. The worst injury I have received is when I was playing football and broke my leg. I have a titanium plate in my leg still where my left fibia is. It still gives me problems to this day even though I broke my leg six years ago. I also have back problems from where I was injured while in a wrestling match. These injuries are the two major ones that I have but there have been plenty of minor ones as well. They just did not have the same lasting effects as the other two did.
Playing sports can teach you so much about life and it can be an amazing experience. I recommend that people get their children to play sports. However, If you are not careful, you can collect some injuries that will stick around with you for the rest of your life.
