Gamers are no strangers to action, adventure, and thrills, so when you think of a typical gamer, you usually don’t think of anyone playing "Minecraft" for hours and hours on end, struggling to force themselves to finally get to bed after a sleepless night. "Minecraft" is one of those games that you just automatically associate with younger gamers, who’ll probably play the game twice and never go back. That game that everyone knows, but no one ever really plays anymore, right? Well, not for me!
There’s something about the game’s simplicity that seems to bore nearly everyone eventually, so why are some people (like me) still in love with the game even though it came out nearly five years ago? What is it that keeps a game without a real goal alive in the first place? Well, that’s just it though! The game’s simplicity! The fact that you can basically do whatever you like is what keeps me, and I’m sure many other players, coming back for more. There’s no “right" way to play the game. You can pretty much do anything you want, from building a nice house, to making your very own mini-game, and even just going on a killing spree in multiplayer mode. The choices are endless!
Still, I’ve found that people can just get flat-out bored with the game, and that’s fine, but in my opinion it’s a question of creativity. Going back to being able to do whatever you like, in terms of gameplay the fun never really stops. Say you want to go out and add a porch to that nice little house of yours. Well, then go for it! No one’s stopping you except for you. The next step in either creating or updating a structure is just figuring out what you like. You’re in complete control! Or let’s say that you just don’t want to build a house at all and maybe just want to make another game others can enjoy. Well, then you can go out and do that as well, through either Survival or Creative mode (the only difference between the two being that for one you don’t have to worry about surviving the game’s monsters and hardships!). Or let's say the only thing you want to do in "Minecraft" is make every single pig in the game your pet -- well, that's an option too!
Finally, when it comes to why "Minecraft" is still one of my favorite videogames even after all this time, it is because of the people I've met through multiplayer. I've met other creative individuals who I've come to call my friends, some younger than me and others older, who have quite the imagination! I've found myself pulling all-nighters just to help finish up a massive structure we've been working on, or struggling to stay alive in a match of Hunger Games. Again, when looking for something to do in "Minecraft," all you need is your creativity.
When it comes to videogames, everyone has their own favorites. Don't get me wrong, I love "Halo," "Forza," and "Assassin's Creed" just as much as the next person, but when asked what my favorite videogame is, I'd be that one dork that confidently shouts "Minecraft!"
