So, a week into the summer, I posted an article about my plans to relax and unwind until the semester crept up on me. But that plan completed changed.
During that week, I received a call form the Chief Engineer of a cosmetic company asking me to join the team as an intern. It seemed to me that my summer of relaxation became the summer of an amazing opportunity.
I trekked into Philly in order to start my first day and was able to experience the true life world of engineering. I'm not an intern that is asked to just grab coffee or lunches. Instead, I am considered a valuable member of the team, and I was able to learn true to life real world experience.
Through this internship, I was able to take a glance into my future, and I felt as though I truly could see myself as an engineer in three very short years.
I wouldn't lie, though. There was a massive learning curve when it came my internship because I only have taken college chemistry I & II, and I am taking organic chemistry in the fall. But instead of that working against me, it gave me the opportunity to see processes firsthand and to learn in real time the applications of the chemistry that I have studied for four years.
I am beyond excited to continue this journey, and I know that it marks a stepping stone to a future rich with opportunities and successes. I also know that when the tables are turned, and I am the recruiter reaching out, I will recall these experiences that I was able to have and make sure to help guide another person to do such great things.
Now, I will leave you with one quick word of advice because sometimes it's all someone needs in order to succeed. You truly will miss every opportunity, if you don't try.
