Chipotle lovers will be disappointed to hear that Chipotle will be closing down all its restaurants on February 8th. This comes as a response to the multiple outbreaks of E.Coli, salmonella and norovirus that occurred first in August 2015 at a Chipotle in Minnesota, then one at a California branch during the same month. Since then there have been outbreaks in Kansas, Massachusetts, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon and Washington. Hundreds of people have been infected, but this hasn't stopped us loyal Chipotle-ans until now.
The decision to shut down all of the stores for a couple of hours (phew) is to allow Chipotle to hold a company-wide meeting to address food safety issues and to implement a food safety plan in order to combat the outbreaks and to make sure that it is one of the safest restaurant chains to eat at.
Though it will be only for a few hours and it means we can't get any of the iconic and delicious burritos/tacos/burrito bowls, at least we will be able to eat safer food. Now we have to decide what alternative to turn to in these dark times.
