Places To Visit Now That You're In State College

Now that you are on campus for a new fall semester, visiting certain places is a must.

There are so many spots you should take advantage of while you are a Penn State student. Below are 12 places, on and off campus, you should make it a point to visit. So, get out there and make this big place feel a little smaller, and more like home -- especially you, freshmen, who have yet to explore.

1. Beaver stadium. Even if you don't have season tickets, you should try to attend at least one game this season. The team is looking very good, this year. Cheering on the players is a great way to show your Penn State pride.

2. Old Main. Snap a picture or two at Old Main. The scenery is beautiful.

3. The Arboretum. Much like Old Main, the Arboretum has beautiful scenery. Also, spending some time outside is a great way to get some sun or just hang out with friends.

4. Berkey Creamery. The Creamery has the best ice cream I have ever had. It's The also a cute on-campus date spot. Prove that chivalry is not dead by using your meal points to take that cute girl out on a date from your floor. Since it's so close to East, freshmen can take advantage of its location. However, every Penn State student should grab a scoop, at least a few times.

5. IM Building. The Intramural Building, better known as the IM Building, was just renovated. If you have a gym membership, definitely check it out. Since it's so large, the lines shouldn’t be as long as they are at the White Building.

6. The HUB. The HUB is still under construction, but there are still good places to grab a bite. Jamba Juice is opening soon in the HUB. Grabbing a smoothie on a warm day can be very refreshing. Even with all the construction, the HUB is a great place to hang out, especially in between classes.

7. Lion Shrine. It is essential to take a picture every year at the Lion Shrine. All freshmen should do it to remember your first few days on campus. It will also be funny to see how young you were when you look back.

8. Pegula Ice Arena. This will be the second season that the Pegula Ice Arena is open. Anyone who hasn’t been there should check it out. Hockey games are very fun, and the arena is beautiful.

9. Dorito Church. Just know the location. It is a great meeting place when you are heading out to Fratland.

10. Mount Nittany. Climbing Mount Nittany is one thing everyone should have on their Penn State bucket list. The views are amazing.

11. Palmer Museum of Art. If you are feeling artsy, check out this museum.

12. McLanahan's. Did you run out of detergent? Did you forget to bring a toothbrush to school? Are you in need of a Penn State t-shirt? McLanahan’s is the place to go when you need something and don’t feel like driving to Walmart.

There are many more locations and activities you should check out, now that you are back on campus or just starting here. Make the most of your years at Penn State because this is truly one of the greatest college campuses.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
