Many students at Stony Brook University know Long Island as the home of their school, but Long Island has a lot more to offer than just that. There are some beautiful towns that are worth visiting on the Island, whether it be to take your next Instagram picture or to explore the beauty of what the town has to offer. Here are some places worth visiting the next time you're on Long Island.
Westhampton Beach
Westhampton Beach is a great place to catch some sun and waves on a hot day. There are a few public beaches you can visit such as Pike's Beach. The drive down Dune Rd. is just one reason to come to the beaches at Westhampton, especially during sunset with the car windows down and some good music playing. After a long day at the beach, you can take a quick ride into Main St. to enjoy some ice cream or a smoothie from many different locations. The choices are endless!
If you catch yourself in town on a Friday or Saturday night, be sure to check out the live music at the bakery right on Main St. There are many different local bands/artists that perform, livening up the street. Southampton
There are so many different things you can do while visiting Southampton. You can go to Ponquogue Beach in Southampton. They just opened up a new pavilion for the summer for visitors to enjoy. If you're looking for something away from the beach, look no further than the Southampton History Museum. It's a great, quick stop to learn about the town you are visiting.
There is also Parrish Art Museum which is worth checking out if you enjoy art. They even have a cafe in which you can enjoy a various number of drinks. If you're looking for a landmark to take some pictures with, then Agawam Park is the perfect place for you. Southampton has so many different things you can do and enjoy and is much worth the trip.
Sag Harbor
If you're an avid theater lover, Sag Harbor is the place to go. Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor has a variety of different shows you can see all summer long. It's a small but intimate experience seeing a show here. If you're looking for a more low key way to spend an afternoon in Sag Harbor, look no further than Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum. You can dive into the culture and history of Sag Harbor here and it is a great place to lay low from the sun. If you're looking for a beach that is not too crowded and has beautiful sunsets, then Havens Beach is the place to be. Equipped with swings and calm waters, this is a great place to relax after a long day of seeing shows and going to museums.
Greenport
If your Instagram posts have been lacking, look no further than beautiful Greenport. There are so many great restaurants to check out here as well as cafes for amazing coffee. While exploring the village, you will run into the antique carousel, which is an ideal place to take some aesthetic pictures for your Instagram. There are museums, art galleries, and beaches, as well in this village to enjoy for the day.
Montauk
One simply cannot visit Long Island without going to Montauk. Of course, you should absolutely visit the famous Montauk Point Lighthouse. You can climb the steps all the way to the top of the lighthouse. If you want to get a workout in for the day, then visiting Camp Hero State Park is the way to go. With well-maintained trails and beautiful views, you can take a hike or walk and enjoy the beauty of the ocean. There are great restaurants and cafes to visit as well while you're out in Montauk. You can even ride horses on the beach! Just take a visit to Deep Hollow Ranch and enjoy an evening with your friends or family riding horses along the shoreline.
No matter where or what you decide to do while on Long Island for the summer, there are so many different ways to enjoy yourself and have fun. Remember to get out of the house every once in a while and enjoy your summer break. Fall semester is right around the corner!
