Places To Donate This Holiday Season

The holidays are right around the corner and there is nothing like giving to those in need. With everyone's busy schedule, there isn't always enough time to physically go out and volunteer, but there are other ways to help. Here are a few charities you can give your spare change to that will help others.

1. Global Fund For Women

The Global Fund For Women helps to advocate for all women around the world to have equal rights and to live violence free lives. They focus their efforts on not only helping women create and seize opportunities, but also rebuilding communities and systems that will help women gain equality they deserve.

As an organization, "We campaign for zero violence, economic and political empowerment, and sexual and reproductive health and rights. " Your donations would be put to hard work; click here to learn more about this organization and to donate.

2. No Kid Hungry

No Kid Hungry is working to eradicate child hunger by partnering with schools and other organizations to provide students and children with breakfast.

No Kid Hungry believes that child hunger is not only a problem currently but also in the future because children that do not get the nutrients they need have a harder time focusing and learning in school, "We're in danger of losing an entire generation of leaders, innovators and problem-solvers."

Who knows, one of the children helped by this organization could even be the future president. Here is No Kid Hungry's link if you'd like to help.

3. Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood provides health services and sexual reproductive education to men and women across the globe. That's right, I said men too. Their primary services include sexual education and preventative care in order to prevent unintended pregnancies from occurring. They also work to educate people on safe sex to prevent the spread of STI's and give cervical cancer screenings for women.

Each year, Planned Parenthood reaches out to educate 1.5 million young people and adults in an effort to educate and inform about sex.

If you feel like helping 1.5 million people get the resources they need to live a healthy life, donate here.

4. Art Start

"Art Start nurtures the voices, hearts and minds of New York City's underserved youth through consistent creative workshops inside homeless shelters, alternative to incarceration programs, and partnering youth agencies."Art Start challenges children to express themselves while thinking critically.

Need I say more? Holiday crafts could be right around the corner for these kids with your donation here.

5. The Ali Forney Center

The Ali Forney Center helps to keep LGBT youth form homelessness. Not only does the charity keep youth off the streets, the Ali Forney center also provides LGBT youth with the support they need to gain independence as they enter the world as an adult.

Donation here would help to keep a roof over youth heads in danger of being homeless and give the funding to get LGBT youth access to health and mental wellness.

6. American Foundation For Suicide Prevention

Their mission is pretty straight forward "Save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide."

The AFSP focuses their attention on understanding mental health more thoroughly as well creating more effective ways of preventing suicide. They host a plethora of events to increase awareness of mental health and suicide help hotlines.

Your donations here would be greatly appreciated.

7. 4 Paws For Ability

4 Paw for Ability works to get service animals to children world wide. Some service animal agencies are apprehensive to give service animals to children. 4 Paws For Ability believes that children can also use service animals in their home to increase independence, even if they are at home with guardians.

4 Paws uses donations to fund the training of the service animal and children so both are prepared when they are together. Donate here.

8. United States War Dogs Association, Inc.

The United States War Dogs Association accepts donations that fund care packages for military dogs working overseas. The care packages include useful gear like cooling matts and vests, doggles for sand storms, booties, and treats.

Not only can you spoil your pooch at home, but you can also spoil a dog that's working to keep you safe.

Donate here to help a canine out.

These are just a handful of charities you can donate to to help others out! The spirit of giving is in the air, use it!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
