The following are my special list of cities that are no doubt worth the expensive cost of traveling, in exchange for the unforgettable experience.
1. London, England
London is a perfectly balanced mixture of both historical and modern aspects of a city. There are tons of amazing places to stay, restaurants to eat at, and sites to see. You can visit for a week or a month and always have something new to do. London's location is also very appealing, as it is close to several other countries, which makes it easy to go visit other places on short notice. This is a city that is perfect for any age; however, I recommend learning some of the stories behind the landmarks before visiting, as it will make the trip much more appealing.
2. Managua, Nicaragua
Nicaragua is an amazing place to visit, especially if you are interested in doing some service while traveling. Nicaragua is looking for help to flourish their economy, rebuild homes, and improve their public schools and hospitals, so their is a vast opportunity of things to volunteer for. The nation contains small villages, big cities, mountains, volcanos, and beaches. Visiting here can be a life changing experience; however, in some areas it can be dangerous. I would suggest going with a tour group or someone who knows the country. Nicaragua also has many beaches that will allow you to relax and enjoy taking a vacation while staying within a reasonable budget.
3. San Francisco, California
San Francisco is a city with no limits. There is constantly something new to do and somewhere new to go everyday. There is an abundance of restaurants that range from 5 stars and super expensive to reasonable and local treasures. The city is not all that there is to do; go visit the Muir Woods, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Lombard Street, and Pier 39. Be prepared to walk or bike up some steep hills, as the city is full of them. San Francisco is known for being pretty foggy over the bay, so don't be afraid to be lenient on waiting for a clear day to take pictures of the bridge. I highly recommend trying to drive up and down Highway 1 to Big Sur if given the time and opportunity. The drive is a bit long and curvy, but the sites are like no other.
4. Prague, Czech Republic
Prague is one of the most beautifully-built cities in Europe. It has the reputation for being one of the cleanest and most welcoming cities abroad. The city has a small town feel while also having a vast amount to do while there. The restaurant selection is outstanding, as almost every restaurant in the city is locally-owned and delicious. The architecture throughout all of Prague's buildings is outstanding. And don't forget to get to know the locals! Don't be afraid to sit down and talk to someone you don't know! The locals are extremely outgoing and willing to help, especially if lost. I've never heard of anyone who had a bad experience abroad here.
5. St. George Island, Florida
St. George Island is easily one of the most relaxing places you will visit. The small island is inhabited by mostly residents. There are very minimal activities to do on the island besides bike, lie on the beach, sleep, and relax. The island has few restaurants; however, they are delicious. The clams, crabs, and oysters are freshly caught and cooked at almost every restaurant. This is the perfect spot for a family vacation, if you're looking for some bonding time. The sights are beautiful and weather could not be better, with the benefit of everything being within a bike ride away.
All of these places have had a significant impact on my vacations and adventures, definitely some of the best and most worthwhile places I have ever visited!
