When you hear the name Kentucky State University, what are the first thoughts that come to your mind?
Drawing some blanks? That's quite alright, because I'm here to give you the 411 on what you're missing out on.
Located in Frankfort, Kentucky, Kentucky State University is listed as one of the most affordable universities in the state, with a wide variety of majors to choose from. With approximately 1,600 students and 135 full time facility members, the transition from high school to college is well... less intimidating.
1. Seniors
2. Juniors
3. Sophomores
4. Freshmen
Here is the order of the food chain by classification. Seems about right? Nope, not at K-State. The University takes pride in our incoming freshmen and transfers. It is imperative that every new student is welcomed into the Bred family with open arms. Everything from fine dining classes, lunch on the Ohio River, tours of surrounding areas, yard parties, and more are promoted during Freshman Week. This week allows for new students to interact with their class (average freshman class is 300 students,) as well as time to adjust to on campus living.
Don't feel left out upperclassmen, all the hype isn't just for the freshmen. There are leadership opportunities for upperclassmen that are partnered through ACE (Academic Center for Excellence.) Anything from tutoring to mentoring is available throughout the semesters and summer break. Did I mention these positions will put a little cash in your pocket?
If all this information sounds too good to be true, in the words of LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow, "You don't have to take my word for it!" Here are some of the comments that current and graduate students have shared with me about Kentucky State University.
