A Place For The People

When Rock, Paper, Scissor turns into Democracy, Fascism, Socialism, which one would you choose?

A Place For The People

Donald Trump is DESTROYING the United States.

The United States at one point was thought to be "the land of the free, and the home of the brave." It was rumored that the streets were paved with gold, and that opportunities were limitless. Apparently that also meant that Fascist Dictatorships were possible. Without further adieu, I would like to address the small handed, orange, elephant in the room. His name is Donald John Trump, and he is destroying the United States of America. He has only been acting POTUS for one week now, but he has reaffirmed to the country that he is in no way fit for politics, much less leading a nation. With his staunch disregard for human rights, and precedent he has without hesitation cast millions of people into poverty, and despair. Yesterday, he implemented a new policy on immigration, which intends to unjustly deport masses of the US population. This calamity was met with widespread protests across the United States. Many people were detained in airports around the country, and it didn't seem to matter that they had a visa, or a green card. Suicide cases were reported at New York's own JFK Airport, and at other various airports throughout country. Where is that free nation that we knew? Well, not everyone in the United States agrees with what Trump is doing, in fact the majority of the population actively disagrees with him. If 6.2 million people marching in the Women's March on January 20th are not convincing enough, than it is emboldened in the litany of protests that have saturated the nation since. Many have found unity, and hope from these acts, and with those, they have also found a Place for the People.

Traveling to, and observing California in the last week has shown me that even though times get tough, and that sometimes small handed, orange, elephants try to take your rights away that we only lose what we have when relinquish power to oppressors.

"Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. It is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love." -J.R.R. Tolkien

There are many ways to show support for your fellow citizen, here are a few options:

-Reinvest in companies that support you and your views. ex: Switch from Uber (funded Mexican-US boarder wall) to Lyft (funded ACLU campaign against Mexican-US boarder wall).

-Establish, or participate in protests and campaigns that seek to abolish hate, discrimination, and the Trump Administration.

-Use your privilege for good, by standing up against oppressors. In other words, stop being a bystander.

-Call/Email/Mail/Contact your political representatives and make your voices heard.

In summary, this country's democracy is being trumped by fascism, and it is my belief that implementing socialist practices is the best way to go about resolving our freedom as a nation, and a world.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
