What A Pixie Cut Can Change

Cutting my hair was a liberating feeling and with that came a new lifestyle to experience.

Going "bold" with a short haircut definitely calls for some new occurrences. In just a few ways an altered style can shift the look and feel of the world around you and your routine as well. A pixie cut can change your whole day for the better. Acceptance is key.

1. Waking up and forgetting you have short hair

In a foggy haze you wake up, expecting the warmth of hair on your neck and cheeks, only to find your ears bare to the world around you. There's a shock in those quick first seconds of the day that can leave you almost disoriented. With sleep comes forgetting about chopping off a couple inches and the newfound appreciation when you look in the mirror (minus the bedhead that usually comes from a pixie as well).

2. Showering

Admit it, short hair is just way easier to deal with when washing. A two-in-one shampoo that cleans and gets the job done? Why not. Want to deep condition it for less time than longer locks could? Sure! Maybe it's even short enough to skip drying with any heat products — it's just that good.

3. Cold ears

This one is not as convenient. With longer hair, the ears are covered and kept relatively toasty. Once it's cropped, however, it feels as if your ears and neck have been touched by icicles or the cold hands of Jack Frost himself. Hats are essential for winter weather and why not all year round as well. Beanies are a fashionable choice and are the key to making sure you don't get frostbite. Keeps the goosebumps away.

4. Summer Heat

Contrasting the chill of your ears, it's so much easier to rock a shorter hairstyle once the temperature is reaching unfathomable heights. Sure there're braids and buns for longer styles, but that comes with pesky fly-aways and a sweaty neck. Forget the feeling of a straggly piece of hair clinging to your neck in a sodden heap! Instead, it's just freedom and the breeze over your skin.

5. Comments

This comes with positive and negative comments. You'll get the usual, "why did you do that?" and "good thing it'll grow back," or my personal favorite, "does this mean you're a lesbian now?" (because those are surely correlating things). Along with those, nonetheless, you'll receive some lovely comments from women who have always wanted to do an out there style and see you as an inspiration.

Hair is, in its own all encompassing manner, a sign of a person's identity. With buzzing it, cropping it, or letting it grow out is the ability to be your own person with control of yourself. Your personality and lifestyle should be accommodated by your comfort level, not by the commands of someone else.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
