I love saying that I'm from Pennsylvania. When asked what part I'm from, with pride I always say around the Pittsburgh area. While I may not be the biggest sports fan I love seeing our boys in black and yellow.
The city comes alive when there's a game going on. People swarm to the city to see the game in the stands. With the Stanley Cup Finals being in town, the crowds gathered outside Consol Energy Center to watch the game on the big screen. So many fans came to the city that they added another big screen in Market Square so that more fans could watch the game. I watched the game from the comfort of my own home but I could only imagine the way those fans at the game felt as we watched in suspense to see the outcome. To know that so many other fans were cheering around the city was a cool feeling. There was a sense of camaraderie, no matter where you were watching the game.
I learned last night while watching the game that Pittsburgh hasn't had a home championship win in any of our sports since the Pirates won the World Series in 1996. So now I understand why the crowds were so huge last night. I can only imagine how the fans would have reacted if the Penguins had won the game.
Pittsburgh came together last night for the game. Just like so many other times, fans came dressed in black and gold to support our team. I might be a little biased toward the other teams from this city since I grew up here but I'm OK with that. I might not be a big sports fan, but I love watching my city win.
