"Three-peat, Three-peat, Three-peat!" is the saying I have heard nonstop throughout the 2017-18 NHL season.
This horrid chant lives in the minds and mouths of Pittsburgh Penguins fans everywhere. The team that has won the Stanley Cup the past two years in a row and were going for their third.
See the key word in there is were, as in past tense, because it has finally happened people the Pittsburgh Penguins have been eliminated from the playoffs.
I have to admit, I almost cried tears of joy when Washington Capitals centerman Evgeny Kuznetsov made that beautiful goal in overtime that ultimately eliminated the Penguins.
As a hockey fan living in Pennsylvania, I am surrounded by Penguins and Flyers fans. I don't mind the Flyers fans, because they may be cocky, but let's face it, they're not getting a cup anytime soon.
Those Penguins fans though are awful. Some, not all, are just so obnoxious.
They lose a game or get a shot fired at their team and their only response is "Well ya, but we won the cup."
Uh ya I know, because you bring it up every two minutes.
I can't even have a conversation with those fans. I'll talk about the Canadiens game the night before and how amazing they did. I'll bring up how the Penguins lost and it's all because they have too much reliance on Crosby's line.
The response I get, when all I am trying to do is have a conversation, is "But did you win the cup last season?"
Finally someone different will win the cup. The Penguins fandom can no longer torment us.
They will have to live with the fact that first off letting Vegas take Fleury was a stupid decision, at least in my opinion, and second that Ovechkin finally did it and they can't harass him anymore because he made it farther than they did.
Ovechkin might finally get his cup, what a strange world. Don't get me wrong though I hope they lose the conference final, but good for him.
I hope this loss leads to season after season of Penguins failures. I know it may seem harsh, but too bad I am sick of it.
Their reign of terror is finally over and I hope it stays that way for a long time. This second round loss gives hope to every other hockey fan that their team has a chance.
It's a new era people I don't want to see another Penguin, Blackhawk, Bruin, or King hoist up that Stanley Cup. It's time for a new victor.
