Pittsburgh Summer Bucket List

Pittsburgh is so much more than my hometown. Going away to college this year has made me appreciate the city with the most beautiful skyline, best sports teams, incredible food, shopping, and amazing people. Here are 10 things to do on your summer break in the Burgh.

1. Pirate Games

Go cheer on the Bucs in the seats of one of the best ballparks in America. Grab a hot dog and enjoy one of the best views of the city and be sure to stick around for the fireworks after the Buccos win!

2. Kayaking on the North Shore

You can kayak through the City of Bridges anytime down on the North Shore from dawn until sunset. Your arms might be a little sore when you're done, but I promise you the view and the experience is worth it.

3. Outdoor Movies

Grab a blanket and some friends and watch movies after sundown on the big screen offered at seven different beautiful parks (Lawrenceville, Brookline, Flagstaff Hill, Mt. Washington, Reservoir Drive, Observatory Hill, & West End). The best part -- it's free.

4. Take the Incline to Mount Washington

Would it even be an article about Pittsburgh if the Incline or Mount Washington wasn't mentioned? These two are definitely a Pittsburgh staple, but so often taken for granted!

5. Three Rivers Art Festival

A Pittsburgh tradition of 10 days filled with amazing food, great live entertainment, and visual art exhibits. (The best part, again, it costs $0.00)

6. Kennywood

Seriously, who needs Disneyland when you have Kennywood Park? It's been a Pittsburgh's favorite park since 1898. Please, while you're here, stop at the Potato Patch for the best French Fries in the world.

7. Randyland

Pittsburgh's most colorful landmark. A hidden Pittsburgh gem, Randyland is home to artist Randy Gilson who opens it up daily to visitors to explore his colorful artwork.

8. Station Square

Whether you want Sunday brunch or a fun night out on the town with your friends, Station Square is the place to be. Right on the river, it has shops, bars, restaurants, hotels, and entertainment. (Again, with a view.)

9. Pittsburgh Zoo

Pittsburgh has one of the coolest zoo/aquariums in the country. It's home to more than 4,000 animals and one really refreshing Dip N' Dot stand.

10. The Strip District

This is where you will find the real Yinzers. The Strip District is one of the most unique places you will ever go. Explore wholesale shops, stressed grills, ethnic foods, and a whole lot of Pittsburgh sports gear all on one long sidewalk!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
