Out of all of the new shows premiering on our TV screens this fall, the one I have been looking forward to the most is definitely "Scream Queens."
This show has everything already working in its favor, starting with its amazing creator: Ryan Murphy. You may better know him as the creator of two of the most popular shows in recent years: "Glee" and "American Horror Story." How two vastly different shows came from this one creative mind, we may never know, but "Scream Queens" promises to combine the best of his comedic and scary sides.
The show's premise is classic enough in terms of the horror genre: a psychopath in a devil costume killing sorority girls, but with a much more updated twist. Take the thrills and chills of "AHS" and combine them with the wit and humor of "Glee," and how can Murphy not have a winning combination?
This is especially true when the cast is led by none other than the original scream queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis ("Halloween" and, as we all especially remember, "Freaky Friday"). Curtis plays the take-charge president of the afflicted university, a role that was especially created for her by Murphy, who has always been a fan.
The rest of the cast is no slouch either. There are faces Murphy's fans will quickly recognize. Emma Roberts plays Chanel Oberlin, the Kappa president. We have already seen her play mean on "AHS: Coven," so there's no doubt she will bring some of that witchy sass to this role. Also, Lea Michele follows Murphy from "Glee" as Kappa pledge Hester Ulrich, where she ups her game from choir-geek to a fearless freshman with a back brace.
New to Ryan Murphy's world (but definitely not to us) are actresses Abigail Breslin and Keke Palmer. If that wasn't enough, musicians Ariana Grande and Nick Jonas are also on the cast list.
Break out the popcorn and hide your pledge pins because nobody in the Greek world is safe. Apparently, there will be a death every week as the serial killer continues to terrorize the Kappa Kappa Tau house, but be sure to expect plenty of laughs and surprises along the way. I don't know about you, but I am definitely looking forward to tuning in every week to find out who is behind the murders and the red devil mask.
"Scream Queens" premieres Tuesday, September 22 at 9/8c on Fox.
