Pineapples? So good. Pizza? So good. Pineapple ON pizza? Not so good. No hate toward people that enjoy pineapple as a pizza topping, but my taste buds and I just prefer the two separate.
Pineapple is by far one of my favorite fruits. It’s actually kind of strange how much I like pineapples. I have pineapples on my bookbag, a pineapple decoration around my door in my room, and a pineapple lamp on my desk. So, it’s safe to say that I enjoy pineapples for all that they are worth. Their taste and their ability to spice up a dorm room!
There's only one time I ever have a problem with pineapple: when it is on pizza.
Something about pineapple juice and marinara sauce just does not seem appealing to me. Then, on top of that, you have either bacon or ham… WITH pineapple, no thank you.
I just have one question for all the Hawaiian pizza lovers out there… would you take a piece of pineapple and dip it in marinara sauce? Or would you melt cheese over pineapple for your mid-day snack? I think that’s another thing that turns me off from Hawaiian pizza. Do I really want warm pineapple?
I guess all the Hawaiian pizza lovers can argue that tomatoes are fruit, so they could say that marinara sauce is like fruit, but that just doesn’t work for me. Technically a tomato is a fruit, but to me, a fruit is sweet and juicy and goes good with things like chocolate — not pizza.
The endless combinations of pizza toppings that are available never seem to dissatisfy anyone, except when you throw pineapple in the mix with the rest of the toppings. Out of all the fruits in the world, why is pineapple the only one that is a pizza topping? You don’t see strawberries or blueberries as pizza toppings and you certainly do not see “Fruit Lovers Pizza” as an option on any menu. Some people argue that pineapple goes good with ham, which I also don’t understand, but I’ll save that for another article.
Raffaele Esposito, the man who created “pizza Margherita,” is probably rolling around in his grave knowing that Hawaiian pizza even exists. For those of you who may not know what Margherita pizza is, it is a pizza topped with tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella cheese, which are all toppings that you would typically associate with Italian food. In fact, the toppings on Margherita pizza are meant to represent the colors of the Italian flag, red, white, and green. So, if you want actual facts as to why pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza, now you have it. Raffaele Esposito did not intend for pineapple to be used as a pizza topping, as the Italian flag was his inspiration to create pizza in the first place.
Again, I mean no disrespect to all the Hawaiian pizza lovers out there, but do I see where your taste buds are coming from? Not. At. All. Questioning whether or not pineapple belongs on pizza is actually a huge debate and many people can argue for or against it. Needless to say, if you argue for it, you’re wrong. Why take something so awesome, like pizza, and put such a controversial topping onto it? We should all just accept the fact that we all have one common goal and that is to eat tons of pizza and enjoy that pizza.
But how can anyone enjoy pizza when there is pineapple on top it?
